Web spirituality. Cyber Christianity.

At one time, phrases linking the Internet and “Christian community” seemed oxymoronic. There is still a fair amount of discussion out there about whether true Christian community can be experienced online, or whether it should. After all, stories of people who have literally isolated themselves within the four walls of their apartment with stacks of pizza boxes and a computer monitor abound. They prefer the anonymity of cyberspace chatrooms to the risk of a face to face encounter. Doesn’t sound much like healthy interaction with the world, does it? But there are also those stories of folks who have found the inspiration, courage - and yes, even love - they needed to face life’s challenges because of relationships formed on the Internet. And if those relationships are formed in a Christian context, God gets into that.
At any rate, the argument against attempts at online community became moot with the advent of Myspace, FaceBook, etc. Don’t get me wrong, these gathering places should never take the place of face - to - face relationships. But as anyone who has tried it knows, there IS a certain level of intimacy, even peace, in sitting down at the end of a hectic day and letting your fingers give expression to your thoughts on the keyboard with others. And that is precisely where this website comes into play. If there is one thing Christians know, it is that where we gather in Jesus’ name, he is there. The Holy Spirit just loves unity! Combine that with the power of sharing scripture, praying for each other, humor, even worship, and voila! Christian Community.
This is a place for community in Jesus’ name. Use it safely and wisely.
God’s peace and blessings,

Pastor Chris

O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. You hem me in-- behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain. Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.
(Psalm 139:1-10 NIV)
