Who do YOU say He is?

“Who do you say I am?” Jesus once asked the disciples - and I think that is the most important question that a person who calls him or herself a Christian should ask themselves.

Who do you say He is?

Correctly stating, and believing in your heart who Jesus Christ of Nazareth truly is, is the dividing line between eternal salvation and eternal damnation. (“whoever believes in their heart and confesses with their mouth….”

I have friends who call themselves Christians and yet scoff at the very suggestion that Jesus was, and still is, God. They suggest that he was simply a good man – a good teacher – a prophet. My reaction to that is:
“Why call yourself a Christian? - Why claim to be a follower of Christ if he was only a man?”
Those same friends, by the way, are insulted when I suggest that they are NOT actually a Christian unless they believe that Jesus is God.

Jesus Christ was fully a man born through a woman but also fully God, (because he was) conceived by the Holy Spirit – who overcame the virgin girl named Mary, a humble servant of God.
There is no other name under heaven by which we are saved: Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Acts 4:12
No amount of good a man (or woman) does will get him or her to heaven.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life – no one comes to the Father but by me.”
The universe and EVERYTHING in it was created through Christ. John 1:3
There is only one God – He is a trinity:
The Father in Heaven, the Son born on earth as a man (God in the flesh) and God's Holy Spirit through which He speaks to, guides and comforts His people.

A friend of mine recently introduced me as a "born again Christian" - (Praise God that I am...) Some think that the term "born again" is a title attributed to only a certain kind of Christian, as if there were certain flavors of Christianity and well, I just happen to be in "that group".
Being a Christian is defined as being BORN AGAIN. I'm not making this stuff up - Jesus said it. - Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." John 3:3

Who do you say He is?

Here's a great written sermon on being born again:

The New Birth:
Biblical Discernment Ministries - The New Birth

WE BELIEVE in the inerrancy of Scripture. We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, infallible Word of God, and a complete and final written revelation of God.

WE BELIEVE in one personal, transcendent, and Holy God, the Creator of all, who is eternal, and who manifests Himself in three separate persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ though fully God, became a man for the suffering of death, that He is the promised Messiah, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the Cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God the Father, and ever lives to make intercession for us.
After Jesus ascended to Heaven, He poured out His Holy Spirit on the believers in Jerusalem, enabling them to fulfill His command to preach the Gospel to the entire world, an obligation shared by all believers today.

WE BELIEVE all people are by nature separated from God by sin and responsible for their own sin. We believe salvation, redemption and forgiveness are freely offered to all of us by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, that person is immediately “born-again”. Jesus Christ and His work on the cross alone have the power to save.

WE BELIEVE the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit enables any believer who asks in faith, enabling them to preach the Gospel and live it out daily. We believe the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures, are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines. We believe love is more important than all the gifts, and without love the exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless.

WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ is the head of the Body, His church, and that church government should be simplistic rather than a complex bureaucracy. We desire to be led by the Holy Spirit and all the functions and directions of the ministry of the church. This motivates us to holy living, heartfelt worship, and committed service, diligent study of God's Word, regular fellowship and participation in baptism by immersion and in the Holy Communion.
